Hispanic Women In Leadership

ABOUT US

Mission

To encourage and promote the development and advancement of all Hispanic women.

History

Hispanic Women in Leadership (HWIL) was chartered in June of 1988 soon after a pioneering group of Hispanic women in Houston successfully produced the first Hispanic Women’s Leadership Event in March of that year. Membership has grown from 20 founding members to today’s figure of over 400 professional women and men who are committed to advocating Hispanic women’s issues and to improving the quality of life for Hispanic women.

As a nonpartisan, nonprofit volunteer organization, HWIL achieves its goals through annual events, community projects, networking meetings, workshops and communication via the Internet and email broadcast messages. The HWIL website contains information about events and activities, as well as posting messages of interest to the Hispanic community.

The organization has sponsored several successful fundraising campaigns, including an annual golf tournament to collect funds for our scholarship programs. Our scholarship funds promote the education at middle school and senior high school and college levels. HWIL has received a 501© 3 tax-exempt status from the IRS.
