Texas First Lady Cecilia P. Abbott will be the keynote speaker at the Hispanic Women In Leadership fundraiser “Excellence in Education Scholarship Luncheon” on June 4, 2015, 11:15 a.m. at the H.E.S.S. Club in Houston, Texas.
Texas First Lady Abbott, an Educator and Humanitarian has been a teacher, vice-principal, principal and served on the State Board of Educator Certification. Ms. Abbott has served on the National Board for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and has worked in the areas of senior healthcare. Ms. Abbott serves on the Board for the University of St. Thomas in Houston among several others.
Our Texas First Lady is a product of the American Dream. The granddaughter of immigrants from Mexico, she was raised in San Antonio by parents who were both educators. They instilled in Cecilia, her sister and two brothers the power of education. Cecilia took that lesson to heart and went on to study for two years at the University of Texas in Austin and subsequently earned three degrees from the University of St. Thomas in Houston: a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Theology. Ms. Abbott has been married to Texas Governor Greg Abbott for 33 years and they have one daughter, Audrey.
Welcoming remarks will be addressed by Texas State Senator-District 6 Sylvia R. Garcia, and Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva M. Guzman. Minerva Perez, Author, & co-host of “Latina Voices” will serve as Mistress of Ceremony.
