About Us

To encourage and promote the development and advancement of all women in general, and Hispanic women in particular. Hispanic Women In Leadership (HWIL) is a service organization committed to promoting the advancement of Hispanics and women in the areas of education, professional interaction, leadership training, mentorship and the perpetuation of the Hispanic culture. In addition, the Hispanic Women In Leadership organization shall strive to provide a forum for addressing issues affecting the Hispanic community.

Hispanic Women in Leadership was chartered in June 1988, soon after a pioneering group of Hispanic women in Houston successfully produced the first Hispanic Women’s Conference. 1. I am a doctorate student in educational leadership and exploring a dissertation topic concerning mentoring of Hispanic women educators in the community college arena. As an accounting professor for 36 years, I have experienced the good and bad of being an Hispanic teacher. I have learned to be proud and assertive with my students and they in turn admire and search me out for help. I would like to join your organization because the purpose of your organization is my lifetime goal. Hope to hear from you.

  2. Greetings Ms. Blankenship, I am the newly elected President of HWIL and just read your email. I am interested in your topic. Call me, (512) 289-3058 (Houston number). Look forward speaking with you.

  4. Soy u a mujer caribeña. I’m looking to join your organization but would like to attend an event and fellowship before I comity therefore I can get to experience a bit more of who you are on a personal level and not just reading about it.

  5. I am a Latina from Puerto Rico. I have been in the states for 15 years. I am a presidential security veteran from the US Air Force. Departed from the military in 2004 to build my family, grow professionally outside of the military, and pursue my education. Today, I work for the federal government, I have a beautiful family, and am working on my PhD in Industrial Organizational Psycholofy. The treatment that women, and Latinas, receive in the federal government is the inspiration for my research in federal leadership dysfunction and their influence on the employee. I have been through so much heartache, I am a professional that is continuously treated like la sirvienta (nothing wrong with veins a sirvienta!!! Just wrong when you are supposed to be the boss and your supervisor asks you to cater to the Caucasian employees that actually work for you!). Is this the organization for me? Necesito in circulo de mujeres Latinas fuertes que me den aliento porque sola ya no puedo. Blessings.
